Serve all incomes, ages and abilities
Rhode Island YMCAs serve more than 143,381 people in diverse communities statewide. Ys bring together young and old, men and women, people of all faiths, backgrounds and incomes. In 2002, more than $2,534,731 was raised for scholarships, subsidies and other community services.
Serve nearly 41,158 youth in non-school hours
Through YMCA preschool, school age and teen programs, children and their families find a wide range of activities at the YMCA including community service projects, teen leadership programs, computer technology learning centers, drama clubs, and sports leagues. The value of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are woven into every Y activity.
Provide child care statewide
The YMCA is the largest provider of child care in the state, serving more than 5,735 children per day. Y Childcare programs are centered on the three-way relationship that exists among children, parents/guardians and staff. The YMCA works in partnership with local schools and agencies to provide quality care and age-appropriate curricula that help children grow physically, mentally and spiritually.
Partner with neighborhood orginizations
Rhode Island YMCAs work with local and county governments including police and fire departments, public housing developments and children’s services; public schools; churches; and other community and civic organizations.
Provide camp experience
Rhode Island YMCAs register over 60,022 camper weeks annually. Through day and resident camps, children from diverse backgrounds share their interests while adding teamwork and cooperation to their life skills.
Encourage volunteers
As a volunteer based, volunteer led organization, nearly 3,249 unpaid individuals strengthen our Ys. These civic-minded leaders sit on our boards, develop outreach programs, raise funds and offer varied support to further the valuable work of the YMCA.
